Rodgers Traded to Jets

The Green Bay Packers have traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.

40 days since Rodgers announced on the Pat McAfee Show that he wanted to play for the Jets, a deal has finally been brokered.

The Jets are giving Green Bay 2023 picks nos. 1.15, 2.42, and 6.207, as well as a conditional second round pick in 2024 that becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65% of snaps this season. They receive Rodgers and two 2023 picks, 1.15 and 5.170.

Barring catastrophe, Rodgers will certainly reach the 65% benchmark in 2023, so the trade breaks down as follows:

Jets receive:

Aaron Rodgers
2023 1.15 (1050 draft points)
2023 5.170 (28)
Total draft points acquired: 1078

Packers receive:

2023 1.13 (1150)
2023 1.42 (480)
2023 6.207 (9)
2024 first round pick (1000)
Total draft points acquired: 2639

This puts Rodgers’ value (1581) at roughly the 6th overall pick in this year’s draft.

Should Rodgers not reach 65% of plays in 2023, the 2024 second round pick (420 draft points) conveyed to the Packers would put a valuation (981) on Rodgers of around the 16th overall pick in April.

That change in compensation from the Jets would not make up for Rodgers missing over 35% of the Jet’s upcoming season. The Jets’ season at that point would be a loss, and the trade merely a massive waste of draft capital.

The only other QBs currently on the Jets’ roster are the disappointing Zach Wilson (second overall pick in 2021), Rodgers’ former backup in Green Bay Tim Boyle, and fourth-year QB Chris Streveler, who has 40 career passing attempts.

Streveler will likely be cut.

The move up from 15 to 13 in next month’s draft places the Packers in a better position to land Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the near-consensus top WR in this year’s draft. CFCP previously had the Packers selecting Dalton Kincaid.

This is a breaking story. Check back for updates.
