The Los Angeles Rams have signed former Denver Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien.
Contract details were not immediately available.
Rypien signed with Denver as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He appeared in four games (two starts) over three years and went 53-88 (61.5%) for 778 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.
In college, Rypien played four years at Boise State, where he was 1,035-1,617 (64.0%) for an impressive 13,578 yards, 90 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions.
The signing is notable largely because the Rams drafted Georgia QB Stetson Bennett in the 4th round of the NFL Draft just five days ago, and signed undrafted University of Tennessee at Martin QB Dresser Winn on Monday.
The Rams now have Super Bowl champion Matthew Stafford, Bennett, Rypien, and Martin as their rostered quarterbacks.
Stafford, who should have been cut this offseason as part of a desperately needed rebuild in Los Angeles, is the presumptive starter leading into the 2023 season.
Bennett went earlier in the draft than CFCP had projected. The assumption between then and yesterday has been that he would begin this season as the number 2 QB behind Stafford, but this signing should at least invite some competition for that job.
Rypien is nephew to former NFL QB Mark Rypien.
